The invention, prophetic use and influence of machines has had undeniable reverberations on the human emotive spectrum, with ‘machinic’ philosophies closely interwoven into artistic imagery.
Re-imagining a city powered by its industrial sector, ‘Synchronicity’ explores the complexity of an ultramechanized civilization, expressed through a seven-tier artwork featuring a series of synchronized gears. An intensively iterative design process, including hard drawings by hand and translating those into machine language, make this artwork the perfect example of human and machine intelligence. Made from multiple layers of aluminium, each conveying their message through cut outs and hand-assembled with acute precision, the artwork is a metaphor for the balance, collaboration and commonality that is essential to a city’s success.
