From the simple stone seats of the Neolithic period to the ornately decorated thrones of medieval history, the journey of the chair has been a quest to elevate the every day into something extraordinary.
A sinuous structure made entirely out of Birch ply, ‘Betula’ is the first of Apical Reform’s prototypes in fluid deconstructivism. The chair’s seemingly simple yet arrestingly fluid form is revealed with each precisely engineered and hand-assembled layer. Striking a balance between ergonomics, artistic aesthetics and functionality, the complex curvature of each subtly varied striation is designed for the comfort of the human form despite its complicated joineries.
